Chanuka Customs :)

How do we thank Hashem for the miracles He's done and celebrate by remembering the story of Chanuka? Easy:

1. We light the menorah every night of Chanuka for 8 days. Some people use oil and some use wax candles. We place the menorah on a window sill to show people outside and remind them of the miracle of Chanuka. There are people who also place the menorah by a door, opposite the Mezuza in order to be surrounded by Mitzvos.

2. We enjoy eating foods fried in oil such as potato latkes and donuts. Yum!! Who can resist them?

3. We play a game using a top like toy called the dreidel.
Rules of the game:

  • Every player gets either coins, candies or chocolate chips, and begins the game by putting one of the choice pieces in the middle.
  • When a player spins the driedel it can land on 4 different letter
  • Nun means the player gets nothing from the middle and doesn’t need to give anything from his pile either.
  • Gimmel means the player gets all the pieces from the middle.
  • Hay means the player gets half the pile in the middle.
  • Shin means the player must give all his pieces to the middle.
It is a great game and lots of fun t play with your family.
