Our Community- Shul

The center of Jewish Community is synagogue. A place of prayer, study and education, social and charitable work, as well as a social center.
An year ago, our community was hit by the hurricane Sandy.
It destroyed the first floor of our school and synagogue.

Water got to tallises and Torah covers.

Water ruined sefarim

Water ruined Torahs.

Friends to see how shul members try restore their shul life.
We decided to help shul by collecting money for a siddur.
How did we do it?

Friends sent invitations to the Preschool friends to come to "Little Concert."
Abigail was selling tickets.
Pre-K Friends sang their favorite songs.
The concert was a great success.

Morah took collected money to the Judaic Store and bought a brand new siddur.
Friends approved the purchase.

They presented the siddur to Rabbi Okonov
who was touched by friends caring deed.
There is always place for a kind deed.

Our Community - Morahs

At the beginning of the week, friends visited other classes in our preschool
to see what morahs responsibilities are in their classes.

Morah Julia said that she is responsible for making sure that children
take important for them nap after lunch.

Morah Bella said that she makes sure that friends learn
table manners and eat healthy food.
Morah Leah and morah Sarrie said that they are responsible for teaching friends
letters and numbers. But most important, they teach them how to be
good friends and peaceful members of community.

Doing Something Kind

While learning about communities and how people help each other, we realized that the friends in our class are our own little community and we try to think of ways we can be kind to people in our "community."
Since in a comminuty people help each other, every day, in our class, during davening one friend has the oppurtunity to stand up and share with his/her friends one kind thing that they will do for their freind at some point during the day.
Here Avigail is sharing the kind deed she will do for her friend.
Pre-K Friends are thoughtful and kind!! We think of others! We care!

Parshas Shmos

King Pharoah's astrologer reading the stars which read there will be a baby boy soon to be born that will take the Jewosh people out of Mitzrayim when he will grow up.

Letter Kaf

This past week our dear friend Ben was our Mail Man. He brought us the letter Kaf. We thought it looked like Letter Bais until we noticed its difference. Letter Bais has an extra little line on the bottom while Letter Kaf only has a big line. Letter Kaf has one big line on top, one big line coming down, one big line on the bottom, and one dot inside.
Hint to remember Kaf's form:
Kaf is sitting with a cough candy in its mouth because it has a cough and cold.
Ben our Mail Man

Bina forming Letter Kaf

Alec forming Letter Kaf with his body. :)

Kosher begins with Letter Kaf.
What foods are good for our bodies? Healthy foods.
What foods are good for our neshama (soul)? Kosher foods.
We went "shopping" for food in our classroom and looked for kosher labels on them before "buying" the items.

Reuven found a kosher sign on the Marhsmallow Fluff. The sign read (ou)

Ben found an (ou) kosher sign on the olive oil can.

Letter Yud

Our dear friend Joshua was our Mail Man who brought the Letter Yud. It has one little line on top and one little line coming down.

Yud is for a Yeled (Boy) wearing a Yarmulka (in Yiddish for Kippa) washing his Yadayim (hands) for bread.
Yaldah (girl) Begins with Yud.

Playing Alef Beis Bingo. Fun!!

Happy Birthday Boris! :)

This past week we celebrated Boris's 5th Hebrew birthday.
We enjoyed the McQueen cake Boris requested and the many healthy fruits brought for the party.
We would like to wish Boris's parents and grandparents to always have lots of pride and happiness from sweet Boris.
Thank you to Boris's mother and grnamdmother for joining us in the celebration.

New Unit- Our Community- Our School

Pre-K Friends started new exciting unit " Our community".  The purpose of the unit is to teach children what is a community and how a peaceful community function meeting needs of people who live there. We will take trips around Brighton Beach Community and farther, we will visit different places and meet community helpers.
Our unit is started with a story about Jewish people who live in one place- Jewish Community. All Jewish moms and dads want the best for their children. Our moms and dads wanted a good school. And there was one young women who dreamt about having a school. There is how the Mazel Day School got to its existence.
Mazel Day School is a small community. There are many people work and learn in our school.
What makes Mazel Day School a peaceful community? Every one is kind to each other, every one cares for each other, every one has responsibilities.
Who does meet us at the door? He is our security guard Yan!
Yan told friends that he is responsible for
our safety. He makes sure no stranger wander in our school.
Yan also make sure that everyone follows safety rules. Thank you, Yan, for keeping us safe.

Katya is our school secretary. She answers all phone calls, makes tons of copies, laminates pictures.
She calls parents if their kid gets sick. Katya has a big phone. 7 people can call at the same time.

Who does fix broken things for us? Who does make sure that we have healthy snacks,
supplied with paper towels, plates, spoons and forks? Mr. Gena.

Another important helper is Isabelle.
Her responsibility is to keep our school clean. She is the one who comes early in the morning and goes home late, she is the one who comes to our classroom to clean it. She is the one who makes sure
lunch is served warm and yummy. Thank you, Isabelle for your hard job!

Mrs. Inna is the one who takes care of all school orders: markers, paper, uniforms and even buses when we need to go on the trip. She knows everyone and everything.

Another favorite helper is Morah Bella whose challah we eat every Shabbos.
Morah Bella, your challah is the best!
And finally, the young women who dreamt about the school is our principle Morah Chanie.
As she said,  she is a Morahs Morah.   Morah Chanie makes sure that morahs have everything for teaching- books, toys and other things.
Morah Chanie makes sure that everyone knows their responsibilities. Morah Chanie knows every family who comes to our school.

We can't wait to make a new story.

Opposites

Last week, Pre-K friends learned concepts of opposites. What are opposites?
Opposites are pairs of words that have different meanings (e.g., big/little, fast/ slow, happy/sad).Here are few examples,
A girl and a boy

Sit and stand

Tall and short

Quiet and noisy

Big and small
White and black

The opposites were presented in related pairs. Then friends played "Opposites" game, acting completely opposite as respond to what morah said to do. For example, during lunch time morah said that friends can be very very noisy, do not sit on their chairs and allowed do not eat even a crumb. Guess what, dear parents, it did the trick:)
